Match Report | 21st October 2006 » Slough Jets 4-6 Sheffield Scimitars
Face Off: 6.30pm, Saturday 21st October 2006
The Scimitars had to work hard for their two points on Saturday to gain their first win in the Hangar. Slough Jets had come off a very disappointing weekend and so were determined to avenge that, however they were thwarted by their penalty-count. Fortunately for them, the Scimitars' powerplay unit was not as effective as usual in the first period and Slough successfully killed off 8 minutes of penalties, including a 3 on 5, before their powerplay unit scored on the first attempt at 15.25. Mark Stewart tied the game at 18.47 from Shudra to end the 1st period tied at 1-1.
Again in the 2nd, each team seemed to dominate a ten minute stretch, with the Scimitars starting off brightly with their 2nd goal coming at 21.56 by Towe from Dowd, followed by a lovely goal by Mark Stewart at 23.27 who deked their goalie after passes from Shudra and Morgan. The Scimitars dominated the first few minutes, to take a short-lived lead for the first time, but Slough responded by putting away powerplay and shorthanded goals at 33.36 and 34.38.
The third period followed the same trend with Slough looking dangerous in the first 10 minutes. However there was a lengthy delay in the game after Kyle Horne went hard into the boards after chasing Millie, who was off on an attempted shorthanded breakaway. Play resumed after 40 mins following ambulance staff's arrival who stretchered Horne off the ice. Once play resumed, the Scimitars were in determined mood, scoring twice, at 53.03 by Butterworth from Morgan and Shudra, and 54.50 by Stewart for his hat trick and MOM. Towe sealed the win with an empty net goal at 59.23. Slough are pleased to announce that Kyle Horne has been released from hospital to recover from concussion.
