Match Report | 22nd October 2006 » Sheffield Scimitars 4-1 Telford Tigers
Face Off: 5.15pm, Sunday 22nd October 2006
Yet another 4 point weekend puts the Scimitars indisputably at the top of the English Premier League with 18 points from 10 games.
Sunday's game at iceSheffield versus Telford Tigers was an easier game than Saturday's at Slough, and gave Neil Abel the chance to roll all his lines and give the younger players, and those coming back from injury, a chance to clock up some ice-time. They all took on the challenge with credit with the juniors proving they could mix it with the more experienced players.
The Scimitars dominated the first period, out-shooting Telford by 13 shots to 1, with Simon Butterworth scoring the only goal of the period on the powerplay with a tip-in from a point shot by Ron Shudra at 15.57. Penalty minutes were minimal in the game with Zero Tolerance not being a prerogative.
Play was more evenly balanced in a 1-1 second period with Telford tying the game at 20.15 off a rebound. However, the junior players stepped up to the mark with Andrew Turner tipping in his first goal of the season at 31.27 from Gibson & Rose to restore the lead.
Les Millie assured the Scimitars a win with his first goal coming at 52.21 from passes by Butterworth and Stewart, and his second as he erupted from the penalty box and picked up a pass again from Butterworth and shot straight through the keeper's five-hole at 58.40. The fast-skating and hard-working Robert Dowd was given the MOM award.
