Match Report | 7th October 2006 » Sheffield Scimitars 4-1 Solihull Barons
Face Off: 2.15pm, Saturday 7th October 2006
Saturday's earlier face-off time prevented some regular fans attending the game but allowed others to watch two senior Sheffield ice hockey wins. Solihull Barons returned for a League match but left empty-handed for the second time in two weeks.
Again the Scimitars were able to score 3 goals in the first period, the first coming at 4.14 from a shot by Mark Stewart, from Millie and Shudra, that careened off the goalie's helmet into the back of the net. The second goal was a smooth wrap-around by Ben Morgan (MOM), from Woolhouse and Shudra, followed by Solihull's only reply at 6.24. Matt Towe scored the 3rd shorthanded at 9.58 from Stuart Brittle to restore the Scimitar's two goal advantage.
The second period saw only two minutes of penalties for each side, with both netminders stopping all shots, and the Scimitars looking the stronger side. Action was end to end but with neither team being able to find the back of the net in the second period.
Robert Dowd put match beyond doubt when he scored the final goal of the game at 45.20 from passes by Towe and Brittle and Solihull could not reply to claim a late consolation goal.
