Match Report | 8th October 2006 » Peterborough Phantoms 1-4 Sheffield Scimitars

Face Off: 5.30pm, Sunday 8th October 2006

Another great four point weekend for the Scimitars, in a 4-1 home win against Solihull followed by a 4-1 away win in Peterborough, especially creditable because many of the team have been suffering with a flu-like bug as well as some injuries.

Sunday's game in Peterborough was a much more physical, fast, end to end game than Saturday's, perhaps because of the smaller ice pad but also because it was a much more intense game by both teams. The Scimitars played as a unit with some excellent passing and stick work for which Peterborough had no real answer except physical frustration, though most of the penalties called came in the first period.

Although Peterborough went 1-0 up after six minutes, the home crowd were soon quietened as Ben Morgan struck twice in succession, first at 9.43 from Matt Towe and Les Millie on a 4 on 4, followed by a PP goal at 12.45 from Millie and Ron Shudra, with the 3rd goal coming at 16.58, scored by Millie from Towe.

The Scimitars played some more excellent hockey in the 2nd period especially as there were fewer penalties taken by both sides though there was still plenty of action. Millie completed the scoring with a great shorthanded breakaway goal at 21.36.

The 3rd period was a little less intense though Peterborough did increase the pressure on netminder, Pasi Raitanen, who made some excellent saves all through the game to earn his MOM award, but particularly in the final period. The younger players all had some shifts and acquitted themselves very well. Unfortunately an injury to Stuart Brittle marred an otherwise excellent weekend.
