Match Report | 30th September 2006 » Swindon Wildcats 0-3 Sheffield Scimitars

Face Off: 4.45pm, Saturday 30th September 2006

On Saturday, away in Swindon, the Scimitars disappointed the home crowd with an excellent performance after a slow start. But legs seemed to be a factor in the first period, despite an unusually early arrival, with the Scimitars failing to convert 3 powerplay chances early on. A scoreless first period gave the Scimitars chance to re-group for the second with Swindon looking the sharper team.

However, early in the second Dowd scored at 24.50, from Morgan and Brittle on a delayed penalty call giving the Scimitars the confidence boost they needed. Minimal penalty-taking allowed the game to flow well with Scimitars seizing an advantage for the second goal when a Swindon defenceman accidentally stood on the puck in their offensive zone during a powerplay, but before he could regroup Stewart had got to the loose puck and was off down the ice, putting an excellent pass through to Millie who made no mistake for a short-handed goal at 27.07.

Swindon's noisy home crowd were quietened as the Wildcats had no answer to the Scimitars superior play and Millie (MOM) sealed their fate at 47.39 with an unassisted blast from the blue line for Sheffield's 7th successive win. An excellent game and a rare win in Swindon for any senior team in recent years.
