SCIMDOGS 4 KIDZ ICE HOCKEY CLINICS

Last December the Scimitars held the first Scimdogs First 4 Kidz ice hockey clinic in conjunction with Ice Sheffield.  The idea was to provide tuition and demonstration of the “fundamental skills” so that players of all ages and abilities could benefit from an intensive coaching experience.

Jon Rowbotham is one of the most respected ice hockey coaches in the UK.  Current Director of Hockey and Head Coach with the EPL Sheffield Scimitars and also World Championship Gold Medal winning Head Coach with Team GB U18’s.  An EIHA Level 3 Coach, Jon led the Clinic working out a training programme to suit children from 6 to 16 years and with the support of the Scimitars players successfully delivered an intensive 3 Day ice hockey clinic at Ice Sheffield where the participants learned first hand the skills that has made World Champions.

Here’s what some of the attendee’s had to say about our first Clinic which was held between 21st and 23rd December 2009:

“Thank you for the fantastic clinic. Please thank everyone involved Zach had a great time and found it very useful particularly the off-ice and tips from the Scimitars players. He said that it was much better than the week long Nottingham Clinic he attended in the summer and I know other people have said the same…..”   DR, Nottingham

“Jack has been on 2 camps in Florida over the last 2 summers whilst we were on holiday, but, he has enjoyed the Scimdogd Clinic better because of the variety of the drills that have been prepared and run.   Sometimes it is very difficult to keep interest in different aged kids on full day camps, but, Jack thinks you have done really well with this and there has been plenty to keep everyone interested and motivated.  Many thanks for organising a top quality camp…….”   MP, Chesterfield

“He really enjoyed the 3 days, I think the mix of training and fun was about right for him, he had compared the Best of British to like being in prison….. It was great to see a Clinic run for the kids that does not cost an arm and a leg including shirts you don't want and fancy lunches they won't eat, your catering was spot on, exactly what he wanted to eat……” DR, Sheffield

“Our Jake has come home with a big smile on his face each night and openly stated "it's better than Best of British" which for your first attempt is, i think, a great achievement…. well done and thank you for a great value clinic”  MH, Rotherham

“Even with the 05:30 starts and car scraping to get there on time it was an excellent event from start to finish. A huge thank you to every body involved in organising, co-ordinating and coaching it.”  PH, Nottingham

“Just to also say a Big thanks for a well organised and affordable 3 days of hockey. Matt got into it and said he enjoyed more as each day went on. Jake who is starting to really enjoy his hockey and can usually only manage an hour and a half session said he loved it. I thought the coaches worked really hard and adapted between young and old and experienced and less experienced. Well done, hope we get the opportunity for another in the new year….”  KD, Long Eaton

“Great coaches - kids loved ‘em.  Clinic has got to be counted as a success. Thoroughly enjoyable at an affordable price….!”  JR, Huthwaite

“A big thank-you to all concerned on what was a cracking 3 days of hockey. Ross thoroughly enjoyed himself and as a parent I found the whole event well organised and enjoyable to watch.  I hope it's a regular event as it's invaluable ice time for the kids….”  DJ, Nottingham

“Josh thoroughly enjoyed the 3 days of hockey and thought the lads from Scimitars were great.  He also said, it was better than other Hockey camps he'd been on.  Thank-you for giving up your time for the benefit of our kids…..”  KG, Kirkby-in-Ashfield

For 2010, we are hoping to host a series of Clinics during the School holidays.  The format will loosely follow the format of our first Clinic focussing on “ice hockey fundamentals” which Jon Rowbotham considers are absolutely essential ingredients in all ice hockey players regardless of age or ability.  The emphasis is placed on Expertise and not Proficiency.  It is ok to be Proficient at skating or stopping but it is far better to be Expert at both as with all of the skill sets required to become a Complete Hockey Player.

The provisional dates for the Scimdogs 4 Kidz Clinics for 2010 are set out below, the details have to be confirmed and further details will follow in due course….
