News Article | 3rd July 2009 » Archer back at the Scimitars
Coach Jon Rowbotham recaptures former player who rejoins the Sheffield Scimitars for the 2009/10 campaign.
Speaking today Scimitars Head Coach Rowbotham announced "I am really happy to have re-signed James Archer and I am certain that he will make a big impact on the Club by helping the team reach its full potential and meeting my objectives for the season."
Archer is delighted to be back in Sheffield to represent his home city he said "Last term I played at Milton Keynes where I thought I did ok but when the Coach put in the call to me I jumped at the chance to rejoin the Scims and I can't wait to show what I've learned from my travels"
Coach Rowbotham said of Archer, "I have known James for many years and he has become an accomplished hockey player who will do what is required to see his team succeed. Archer's game relies upon systems of play and game structure and when I put these in place it will enable Archer to reach his full potential which will be a big plus point for the team." He went on "James has a disciplined approach to everything he does and last season he was a key figure in the MK set-up where he clocked-up lots of ice time and contributed with points."
Archer is known to be a stand-up player who is likely to be given the role of a power forward. He is a strong guy who is suited to solid physical play and this is one area which is very important to Rowbotham who added, "I need players with both physical and mental strength so that we can turn the 50/50 battles into 75/25 battles in our favour. Archer is still a youngster who has plenty of years of development ahead of him. I watched him last season and was impressed. He has great hands, a bullet of a shot and tremendous vision."
With the addition of James Archer the Scimitars roster has got some steel for the supporters to get behind when the going gets tough. Archer is not a player who backs down and has been known to drop the gloves and stick up for himself and his team mates. Rowbotham worked with Archer in the junior ranks and knows Archer was a talented player back then.
With the new season just a couple of months away Rowbotham is delighted to have Archer's signature, "I'm really happy to have him back in Sheffield and to be able to work with him once again. I know there'll be a few sceptics who will voice concern over Archer's return and that's what hockey fans do. However, I get to choose the players and we are under new circumstances. I am sure he will become a big player for us and will make a great impact during the season and contribute on a consistent basis."
